2014 Huddle Ups: Topic Submission and Voting Platform

Imagine 200 professionals breaking into small discussions. Engage in promising ideas and approaches and share common challenges. In the process, solve problems and build community!

Use the tool below to:

1. Share your ideas for discussion (optional).

NOTE: You have to use one of your two votes on your own idea.

2. Vote for two discussion topics in which you’ll participate at the conference.

Use one vote per discussion.

Again, submitting a topic necessarily requires the use of one vote.

Topic Submission Rules:

Be concise. Keep the title short, and expound in the description field.

Identify yourself in your submission by adding “Proposed by:” in the description.

These are not presentations – they are discussions among all participants! No presentation equipment will be provided (i.e. projectors.)

Each session will be guided by a trained facilitator. They will kick off the conversation and help moderate as needed.

Propose your topic and/or vote below- but registered conference attendees only, please.

I want to huddle up about...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Building a network for young professionals to design, develop, and contribute to initiatives in sustainability in NH...

We've entered the workforce after leaving college or high school to find varying levels of opportunity/ease of access to start or join initiatives in sustainability in our workplace and communities. Let's discuss ways in which we can become a collective champion for these ideas across the state...

    • What is your company doing to assess impacts to biodiversity and/or ecosystem service impacts in your supply chain?

Company activities can pose certain risks to biodiversity and ecosystem services (such as clean water, tourism, or aesthetic value). I would like to know what risks companies see from their operations, and what approaches companies are using to assess and mitigate impacts. What are the challenges to assessing and/or mitigating impacts? What are peoples' thoughts on potential needs or solutions to these challenges?

      • Making the Hard Sell: How to convince an internal audience that sustainability is profitable

Every organization has its sustainability skeptics. Some are anti-factual; some are data-driven and await a strong case; some are just overwhelmed and just unaware.

How do you make the case to skeptical peers or leaders that sustainability is profitable? What strategies work with which type of skeptic? And how do you upmanage sustainability without getting fired?

        • How can NHBSR members benefit from the dramatic rise in Sustainable Investing?

We could discuss how investors do or should value sustainable practices; how to select 401(k) investment offerings that include sustainable options; and how to educate employees on making sustainable choices in their own financial planning.

Sustainable investing considers Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors to value companies for long-term financial performance. It is based upon an emerging body of research that suggests that companies’ environmental, social and governance performance is intimately connected to their financial performance. For background, see NH’s own Joe Keefe (from Pax World) interview in Forbes last week - http://www.forbes.com/sites/terrywaghorn/2014/05/01/joseph-keefe-sustainable-investing

Paul Button of Energy Audits Unlimited.

RECs are the best-kept secret in the State. And the utilities are taking advantage of this by claiming RECs for free to offset their RPS requirements for renewable energy.

How are local companies addressing the challenge?

                    • Creating a recruitment strategy that authentically attracts like-minded candidates who are passionate about sustainability.

Sustainability efforts, their intention, and the commitment that organizations serve to support them cross a broad spectrum. What sustainability efforts might an organization develop and support that will attract like-minded candidates who will passionately offer their time and talent to support that will appeal to diverse generations? What activities might authentically "connect" to the younger generation candidate's interest?
