Leveraging our sustainable practices for public education and guest education
Each day when we welcome guests to our bed and breakfast, we give them an orientation to public areas and amenities. This includes the various kinds of compost and recycling. As we describe the vermiculture (worm farm) in our utility room, the woodland verge compost, the scraps for neighbors' pigs, returning egg cartons to the farmer, saving can tabs for charity and cans for another charity, upcycling materials to a crafter who makes beauty from scraps and how single stream recycling really works... they often start getting excited about what they can do at home or at work. Each person who gets turned on about how to do these things becomse an ambassador for the environment. How we leverage what we do into an educational experience without being bossy or seeming too OCD is the topic.
